About me
I currently write on staff for the IDG News Service, a high-tech newswire feeding magazines including PC World, Computerworld, InfoWorld, Network World, Macworld, Techworld and many others. I’m based in Dublin, Ireland, and cover wireless telecom as well as a wide range of other technology subjects.

Where to find my work
There’s no one spot to find stories I’ve written for the news service, but a search on the Web sites of magazines listed above will yield many of my stories. Also, I recently noticed that PC World has some sort of syndication deal with the ABC News and Washington Post Web sites, where I’ve found some of my stories.

A bit of history
I’ve been following the wireless telecom industry and other high-tech subjects for over ten years. After contributing to a variety of small magazines for a publishing company in Chicago, I joined the staff of Telephony magazine covering wireless. I moved on to follow the same subject for Interactive Week until the magazine shut down in November 2001. After that, I freelanced full time, except for a temporary stint on staff for The Seattle Times during the summer of 2002.

While freelancing, my work appeared in a variety of publications including The New York Times, The Dallas Morning News, The Seattle Times and Wired News. I also wrote daily for Wi-Fi Networking News, Glenn Fleishman’s well-regarded blog that follows developments in the Wi-Fi industry.

On the last day of 2004, I moved to Dublin, Ireland, and continued to freelance from here. I wrote a monthly story for Wireless Week magazine and contributed regularly to Mobile Pipeline. With Glenn, I helped launch Wi-Fi Networking News Europe and WiMax Networking News, two new blogs covering aspects of the wireless space.

In September 2005, I joined the IDG News Service where I’ve covered subjects including Oracle’s purchase of Siebel Systems, the controversy over Google’s Book Search service, the growing interest in Linux-powered mobile phones and the woeful lack of broadband connectivity in Ireland.

What I like to write about
Since I've been following wireless for quite a while, chances are I've written about almost any subject in the industry at least once. However, I've especially enjoyed writing about regulatory subjects including spectrum auctions and spectrum reform.

I'm also intrigued by how new technologies like Wi-Fi can help communities preserve their culture. I've been lucky enough to stumble on some fun stories that shed light on unique applications of Wi-Fi. Hopefully I'll continue to dig up examples of interesting by-products of technology.
